Our Patron Saint: Jean-Michel Basquiat

Basquiat is our patron saint because he was the ultimate practitioner of Akọ na Uche (Sustained Improvisation). He captures the spirit of the Physician-Philosopher who must navigate a "world of power"  with the soul of an artist.

  • The Aristocratic & The Grassroots: Merging the prestige of the "gallery" with the raw energy of the "street," much like the medical profession rose from "despised" origins to a position of "cultural authority" and "sovereignty".

  • Strategic Bricolage: Synthesizing disparate and limited resources—be it clinical data or "esoteric art" —to generate entirely new forms of intellectual brilliance.

  • The Power of Chi: Turning unique, lived experience into a global narrative. He reminds the physician that while authority originates in "dependence" , it is sustained by the "legitimacy" of a shared, humanistic understanding.
